Bulk Molding Compound (BMC) is a thermosetting composite material that combines various inert fillers, fiber reinforcements, catalysts, stabilizers, and pigments to form a paste‑like compound suitable for compression molding or injection molding. BMC is highly filled and reinforced with short fibers, typically containing 10% to 30% glass fiber, with fiber lengths ranging from 1/32 inch to 1/2 inch (12.5 mm). Depending on the end‑use application, the formulation can be precisely tailored to achieve controlled dimensions, excellent flame retardancy and arc‑resistance, high dielectric strength, superior corrosion and stain resistance, outstanding mechanical properties, low shrinkage, and stable coloration. BMC exhibits excellent flow characteristics as well as superior electrical insulation and flame‑retardant performance, making it ideally suited for applications requiring precise details and tight dimensional tolerances. The material is available in a wide range of colors and can be finished with powder coating or water‑based coatings.
